    COMMERCIAL SOLAR ENGINEERING

Commercial Solar Engineering Services for EPCs and Developers

Jolt provides commercial solar engineering services for EPCs and developers. I worked for a commercial solar EPC before I became a licensed engineer, and I watched the same thing go wrong over and over: drawings that looked fine on paper and fell apart in the field. We only do commercial and industrial work. No residential, no utility-scale. Installers moving into larger projects need to understand how residential to commercial solar changes the design scope, permitting process, utility documentation, and level of professional responsibility.

A permit rejection costs $2,000 to $5,000 per project in fees and lost time, and the weather window does not wait for a resubmittal. Most rejections trace back to a plan set built from a template, a single-line that does not match the equipment on site, or a structural calc that missed the local load. A licensed PE reviews and stamps every set, and we design to clear review the first time.

"A fast design that causes problems in the field isn't actually fast at all."

Before I founded Jolt in 2017, I spent 10 years on the EPC and procurement side. I was the client who hired engineering firms. I felt the frustration when designs came back late, incomplete, or impossible to build. I took the calls from field electricians who couldn't get answers. I dealt with the delays, the revisions, the runaround.

That experience shaped everything about how I run Jolt. I built the engineering firm I wish I'd had when I was on your side of the table.

Most competitors treat commercial solar as a side business or afterthought. I don't. This is all I do, and I've built my entire operation around one goal: getting your projects permitted and installed faster.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN A PLAN SET

PE-Stamped Plan Sets Built for Permit Approval

Every deliverable is reviewed by a licensed PE, stamped, and optimized for your jurisdiction's AHJ requirements.

    Code-Compliant Single-Line Diagrams

Detailed SLDs and 3-line diagrams built to current NEC standards and specific utility interconnection requirements.

    Detailed Electrical Layouts

Precise equipment locations, conduit routing, and wire sizing designed for actual constructability in the field.

    Interconnection Documentation

Complete utility-ready packages including arc flash, short circuit, and voltage drop calculations. Projects that require utility-ready single-line diagrams, calculations, and stamped documentation can use Jolt's solar interconnection services.

    PE-Stamped Drawings

Every sheet reviewed, sealed, and signed by a Professional Engineer licensed in your project's state. Site-specific engineering shows how solar design project outcomes improve permitting, reduce field conflicts, and create a clearer basis for procurement and construction.

    AHJ & Utility Revisions Included

We handle the back-and-forth with plan checkers and utility engineers until your project is approved.
    WHERE WE WORK

    Nationwide

Commercial solar is local. What flies in Texas gets rejected in California. We hold PE licenses across the country and maintain a deep database of AHJ and utility requirements.

We provide localized expertise for high-growth, high-complexity markets. Learn more about our specialized engineering services for Arizona and California. For projects subject to Title 24, Rule 21, NEM 3.0, and local amendments, review Jolt's commercial solar engineering California capabilities.

    REALISTIC TIMELINES

    Honest Timelines, Not Rushed Ones

In commercial solar the schedule matters, but rushing a design only to have it sit in AHJ revision cycles for two months is not actually fast. Most commercial plan sets land in a 2 to 3 week range. It can be sooner, and sometimes longer. It depends on the project: the size, the site, and what the local jurisdiction requires. A straightforward set can move quickly, and I would rather give you an honest read at kickoff than commit to a date I cannot hold.

    HOW IT WORKS

    From Kickoff to Permit Stamp

    01

    Kickoff Call

We map your site conditions, utility requirements, and AHJ expectations before a single line is drawn. Front-loading this thinking prevents expensive revisions later. Jolt's project process is built around early solar engineering involvement, using kickoff and Basis of Design work to surface site, utility, and AHJ constraints before they become revisions.

    02

    Basis of Design

We lock in your interconnection strategy, equipment selections, and design approach in a written Basis of Design document. This is your project's engineering roadmap. The kickoff and Basis of Design stages demonstrate the value of early engineering engagement by resolving interconnection, equipment, AHJ, and site decisions before the plan set is developed.

    03

    Permit-Ready Delivery

Most plan sets land in a 2 to 3 week range, sometimes sooner depending on the project. AHJ and utility revisions included. Field support available throughout permitting.

    WHY EPCS CHOOSE JOLT

Designed to Solve the Problems You've Already Lived Through

    Built for Your Workflow

Commercial solar projects ramp up and down. Your design partner should too. I've structured my team to scale with your needs, delivering quality designs whether you have one project or twenty.

    Speed Without Sacrifice

Fast design and good design are not opposites. A plan set that clears review on the first pass is faster than a cheap one that comes back with corrections. I optimize for the schedule you actually keep, not the one on the proposal.

    Direct Access to the Engineer

Field electricians need immediate answers on the job. I take those calls. No waiting, no runaround, just real support from someone who understands local requirements inside and out.

    No Price Games

I don't compete on price. I compete on value. When you work with Jolt, you're getting specialized expertise focused exclusively on commercial solar, not a generalist trying to do everything.
